#Arikuyéri: Yoruba Names

What is it with Yoruba cultural belief and death...what makes death so important that people from the culture make so much reference to it, even in their names?

Nigeria is Ranked 62 Poorest Country in the World

I know you know that Nigeria is the largest country in Africa, with population size of over 170million, this factor gives room for the country to be regarded as the largest economy in Africa, ahead of South Africa (aside from the nominal GDP being used to arrive at this ranking). With this status, one will expect that the country and her people should be experiencing significant development, but this is not so as the country is lagging in some major aspect like

As 2015 Fades Off... Deja' vu

As we approach the end of 2015, I want us to feel a sense of deja vu in December 2015. Last year December, most of us were filled with anxiety, while some were excited.

This last month of 2015 should entail being

Women Development and the English Language

She was shivering and weeping...
She needs an interpreter to explain to the doctor how much pain she is feeling and when last she felt it... Looking tensed and in-pain, she screams in her dialect, "I am in pain!!!..." (translated).
The lady by her side understood that language and transferred the screamed message to the doctor...
What if that woman by her side wasn't there to interpret her language to the doctor? I know how

Happy Thanksgiving

#ManyThanks #MyThanksgiving

Its amazing how time flies, and how much I have been able to gather in the shortest period of time...

Each moment and each passing time, I try to hold my SMILE in the face of difficulty and pain...

I reminisce about how my journey and step in life have been; not trying to impress anyone with words and lies, but every now and then, I try to impress and be truthful to myself. Truth is, I have so much to be thankful for than to grumble over...

People who know me, I mean know me, know that I wasn't born with a silver spoon, hence, I'm trying to build my diamond spoon.

I'm not where I want to be, I'm on the road though, but I'm not where I used to be... This is not achieved through my accord, but by God Almighty through Jesus Christ (the author and finisher of my Faith- the WORD of God) and through my parents, Mr and Mrs Richard, my siblings; Yemisi, Wale and Dupe and my elder brother Engineer Ayodele (these set of people remain with me through thick and thin). I thank my closest cousins, Segun and Bunmi Lebi for supports granted me.
I want to thank my Fiancee, Ola Oluwapelumi, her sisters and parents Elder and Mrs Ola, they too have been supportive.

Special thanks goes out to my relatives and friends, for keeping it real with me and most times taking all my bullshits. Thank You.

To those of you that have been in one business or the other with Glitz Plus Entertainment, thank you for working with me. We are certainly going somewhere, we are not giving up because there is a whole lot to fix in our world today.

Happy thanksgiving day and have a great and fulfilled day.

#SayNoToDomesticAbuse: A Call To Action

A Grid Picture of the victim, between marriage and brutality
This got me, this story I'm about to write is just one in a million cries for help amidst some relationships and marriages. Nigeria, a country still building her 'democracy', still have a long way to go in providing laws that protect the generality of people occupying its geographical space, irrespective of their age, sex and gender. Stringent laws need to be enacted to

#KogiDecides - A Short Experience on Nigeria Election (#INEC)

#KogiDecides
From my experience as a PO at Ilorin, Kwara State, in the last General Election; some of these Collation Officers are confused. You hear someone say, how can your Total Vote Cast be lesser than the Accredited Voters? Like I should go and drag people from their houses to come cast their vote abi? What should be their concern, is that Votes Cast shouldn't be more than Accredited voters. In as much as we shouldn't disenfranchise anyone, there are instructions on the commencement of voting process and closing of such process.
Also, in as much as security operatives

On #Biafra and #Nigeria

J.F.K.
Had a gathering of Entrepreneurs a month ago, at the Lagos Business School, V/I outlet. The guest speaker, Mr Uzo Nwagwu, COO of General Electric in West Africa, spoke on the Opportunities in the Oil and Gas Sector, he never spoke of Biafra or wished Nigeria was not whole as it is. I listened to him say good things about the Northern part of Nigeria and how he enjoyed his growing up there and

#Regrets or #Thanksgiving...

While I am still feeling the pain and regrets of loosing my laptop, Phone and modem, to the act of burglary, when I was serving my fatherland in Kwara State, barely a month before I left service. I felt I was hated and forgotten by God to have allowed such thing to have befalling me His Favourite Son (despite my shortcomings). Despite the fact that the

Why This 'Hate' Message from Ben Carson?

Personally, America do not practice true-democracy, until they do away with religious and racial hate. This is why I 'fell in love' with St. John Paul(formerly known as, Pope John Paul II), with the kind of life he led, embracing Christians and Muslims alike, seeing us as one in the almighty lens of God.
These same republicans will be the ones so quick to legalise and embrace homosexuality but will reject other religion, even the ATR!!! Its sad really.

Read Carson's excerpt below;

In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," Carson, a retired brain surgeon who often refers to his own deep Christian faith, was asked whether a president's religion should matter.

"I guess it depends on what that faith is. If it's inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter. But if it fits within the realm of America and consistent with the constitution, no problem," he said.

Asked whether he believes Islam is consistent with the US constitution, he responded: "No, I don't. I do not."

"I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that," he added.

TO OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS WHO FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

The effect of terrorism is in great magnitude (a negative effect to say the least). Its effect can not be compared to the effect of war at all. The world as experienced so many wars and consciously don't wish to experience such again.

The #UN Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) and My Reservation(s)

Photo: Richard Oluseye (Roluseye)
Have you heard of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global goal, taking over from MDGs on the 1st of Jan. 2016... As we might argue, MDGs was actually for the broke/poor countries like Nigeria, India, Malaysia, etc. Nigeria practically failed in achieving the goals except achieving a bit of the goal, which states 'combating HIV/AIDs and other diseases' (we combated #Ebola) and tried to priorities

WERE POLICE EVER OUR FRIENDS…A TALE OF INSANITY IN A SANE STATE

If she were shot-dead by a white cop, we would have said it was an act of racism... In short, why am I saying this, if the same scene which happened some days ago, where a gang of police officers intimidated the people they swore an oath to protect, if it had ensued abroad or south Africa, we would have joyfully looked for a name to brand that deed; xenophobia, racism and the likes. Nigerian Police have being acting in a state of impunity for a very long time(no apologies to my police folks) and it is high-time something is done about it.

But this ugly incidence happened right here and nobody is saying anything. It even happened in Lagos. The victim was an Igbo family and

ALL MINISTRIES ARE EQUAL AND SHOULD BE UPRIGHT- THE ROAD TO ACHIEVING #SDGs

This certainly is not the time to start comparing and contrasting who is more significant among the cabinet members sworn-in on the 11th of November, 2015, by President Buhari of Nigeria. Nigerians have taken to social media to swell the head of some of the appointees that they have the best portfolio and the likes.
Let's look at some of the various ministries and their import and why you should not undermine them...

Transportation is important in any nation before you can say a meaningful development has occurred. People must be able to move goods and self to one place and another in a convenient possible way. Be it air, land or water, it must be safe and cheap.

Happy Birthday Mrs Richard Gbemisola Florence

Yes, you took me in,
Yes, you carried me for nine months,
Yes, you laboured to deliver me,
Yet, you still laboured to breastfeed me,
Yes, you never slept if I found none,
Yes you are the best mom in the world...
Yet, these words are not enough to capture my love...

No, you never thought evil on me,
No, you never abandoned me when I needed you,
No, no woman can trade your place,
No, I never wished I had another mother aside you,
No, I never wrote a poem in a long while
Nor did I wish anybody else a happy birthday on my blog...

Yes, you deserve the honor and more,
Yes, you are beautiful,
Yet, you deserve more...

I love you ma, you are my goddess ('orisa')...
May God keep you for us, may you reap the fruit of your labour and may God continue to reward you beyond measures...
Happy Birthday Mrs Gbemisola Florence Richard

DID GOD ASK YOU TO KILL FOR HIM?

Last night, I was philosophizing about the #KenyaAttack which claimed about 148lives, orchestrated by some religious fanatic. I could not come up or see any reason why a fellow human will want to commit such mass slaughter in the name of religion.
Well, after waking up this morning from that thought, this is what I have and can say. Before now, I mean before the 21st Century, "religion did more good than harm"; religion has tried as much as possible to contribute to human and societal development, we can recall the days of the missionaries. It is not to say that there were no killings or what have you but development was obviously going on and moving. But here and now in the 21st century, "religion has done more harm than good", it is the case in this era and period to associate any killing or violent to religion. This act is leading the human populace into that point of endangerment or extinction. The sad thing is that, those who are victims of the killings and violence carried out by these barbarians are mostly youth and children.
I kind of understand the act of defending your religion, but must you do that through violence. Did God really ask us to kill anybody for him, if so, then when. I think its high time the human race go back to that policy and peace drawing board, like it did during the end of the first world war. The power struggle has shifted from the hand of political and warfare, the battle we have before us is bigger than the first and second world war combine, a religions battle treating our existence.

Act now, avoid religious brainwashing... Jesus Christ while on earth said it, in the days of the end time, nations will fight nations and family will fight family. I want to leave you with this note, it might be the case that the end time is now!

#Nigeria #Decides 2015: 7Days to election .

The heat is getting hotter, the rain is falling heavier... In my country today, politicians are 'presently' at the mercy of the people, because they have come to realize that the verdict of the election is in the hands of the people. It is certainly a good sign that Nigeria is on the road to greatness, because it has been a very long time the citizen of this country seem highly motivated and interested in the outcome of election, I think that happened, June 12, 1993; of which the election was annulled by # IBB.
It is no gain-saying to state emphatically that the media in and outside the country relating to campaign, is flooded with propagandas and not viable/workable programs from both the ruling party #PDP and her opposition, #APC. Listening to #NTA at 9pm, I get so bored with the campaign against #GMB while tunning to probably #TVC or #LTV in #Lagos, I feel disappointed with campaigns against #GEJ.
Well, I'm puzzled at an 'incidence' I noticed while moving from #Ogbomosho to Lagos, and that is, while traveling the road I tend to notice that its only #GEJ's campaign posters that flood the road from Ogbomosho in Oyo state, to #Ibadan of Oyo state. I am wondering, anyone who has traveled that road before can give a long tale of how bad that road is, which is a federal road, and not the government thought it wise to repair it, but that same government have the guts to come post posters and fly campaign banners, no wonder the opposition do not find it fit or necessary to go campaign there, they are sure the residents of that area are wise enough to know what is right and what they want.
Less than 7days before election, #VoteWisely and #shunViolence

THIS TIME SOME YEARS BACK; I MADE MY MOM FEEL SO MUCH PAIN

I was born on this day of the month some 20 something years ago, to a family I will never trade anything in this world for...
A mother's joy is so enormous after putting to bed of a baby, although the process of labour is filled with pain and screams, it is so much filled with happiness and blessings...
The reason why I am here is because of the love my mother has for me, she had so many options of doing away with me but she kept me and prayed vehemently well to God to deliver me to this mysterious world safely...
I love you mum and happy birthday to me @roluseye

NIGERIANS WITH THEIR FALLACIOUS ASSERTIONS

Richard Oluseye Anthony

Hasty Generalization, this is not just about the philosophical fallacy, it is about what is in-play in our lives as Nigerians. It is no gain saying that Nigeria is among the most pluralist nations of the world and also one of the most under-developed nations of the world. Unlike other multi-cultural nations or state, Nigeria has failed to find strength in her diversity. Most Nigerians have one way or the other given a nippy generalization about other cultures that is not theirs, you hear assertions like; “people from the Yoruba tribe especially Ekiti are very stubborn; the Igbos (Ibos) are very selfish and stingy, the Northern people are very unfriendly”, and so forth….

Cancer more Deadly than HIV?

How much do you know about the killer virus called Cancer. Cancer as it is is a disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissue. One of the major cause of cancer is tide to smoking, according to research. When ask which one of the virus is more deadly, I will answer that cancer is more deadly, but both are deadly diseases. Although one can live with HIV for over ten years without feeling much pain and losing part of the body to the virus, it is not so with Cancer. But would you rather not have any of them, as the fact remains that, both are deadly diseases.
If you have not lost a love one or close friend to this killer disease, you will see cancer as one of those common diseases that shouldn't be given so much concern and time. I once lost a very close friend of

ALL FOR WHAT AND WHY?

@Roluseye
Our government is so pathetic and full of rubbish, mind you, I didn't say they are fools ooo... Imagine a building (Language Lab) in the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin that has been completed over 7months ago, the governor of the state is now coming to do an official opening ceremony, all for what?
Well, that aside, the one that pains me more is the fact that some of my colleagues serving in the College are asking us to gather ourselves tomorrow (Today) to collect money from the governor when he comes visiting, I am asking, why?
This generation is consumed with a mind-set of reaping where we did not sow, in other words, corruption has eaten into the fabric and nucleus of our existence... In sort, corruption has become part of our life-style...
As Ayiam-Osigwe opines, we need to change our mind-set positively if we want to move to become a develop nation and this needed change of mind-set can only be achieved if our institutions are functional.
P.S. "Don't let us only change government, let us also change our mind-set"

WONDER!!! (A POEM BY ROLUSEYE)

A random pix from +Google Search

I once walked the valley of death…
Even though death couldn’t take me, it was a horrible sight…
I once had what is called fame, but I preferred faith…
Death told me; don’t be scared for all men shall die…
I found the courage to tell death, it’s the debt we all owe…
Where do we go from here, nobody knows for certain…
For certainty is an illusion, which we possess through faith
All men shall die is the only certainty known by man…

I once read a book about Europe…
A continent to behold; once filled with hatred and racism…
A land rich in bread, butter and honey…

World Leaders Join in the Rally/Protest in France against Terrorism; Over 2000 people feared dead by Boko Haram recent attack

Picture Tweeted by +Mark Cottray

Terrorism is a virus that needs to be stopped when noticed in any part of our world, be it in Africa, Europe, Asia or America, because if not stopped and if left to those affected, it will eventually spread to other unaffected countries. When America was battling with terrorist attacks from extremist Muslims, the world were somewhat laughing at them and even go as far as castigate the ways and techniques they used in battling terror...Now what do we have, terrorism in Nigeria, UK, France, Germany and some other countries who have rarely been visited by terrorist who disguise has religious men/women. We need to be connected and come together as one so that we fight this virus together just as we are winning the war against #EBOLA

Real Madrid and Barcelona Lost in Their First Match of the Year 2015

For those who love to see the big clubs struggle, I have some fantastic news for you all today, Real Madrid and Barcelona both fail to avoid a defeat in what is known as the first weekend of the year. In the Valencia vs Real Madrid match, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty at a early 14 minute to the match, while Antonio Barragan scored the equalizer at the 52nd minute and a goal from Nicolas Otamendi see Valencia ending the match with a win at the 65th min. Thus, CR7 goal had no impact in securing a win for the FIFA Club Championship.
