MERIT AND DEMERIT OF THE INTERNET

Is the internet good or bad? That I cannot really answer at this moment, but I can construct some arguments towards the line of whether the internet is good or not. Many people are practically found of seeing things only in the negative realm, but I for one will not subscribe to such pattern of thinking, as I intend to prove my points with logical and fair propositions. When the internet was formed/found, many of us were alive to witness this great reformation but not every one of us choose to embrace the invention; in other words, the internet was introduced between the 19th to 20th Century, after the ‘war’ and apparently in the ‘New Age’ era. Sooner than we knew it we became victims of technology that subdues the greatness of men. Are humans really dumb as computers thought us to be? I will answer YES!

Before I continue I will like to give kudos to the genius behind the WWW. inventors, kudos to the PHP and JAVA inventors and kudos to those we call the fathers of the internet. The good thing is many of these geniuses are alive to witness the good and damage their inventions has caused. The internet is occupied with so much efficiencies and dangers; as users, we have the choice which to go for, the ‘good-evil’ or the ‘bad-evil’…
I am not really interested in going into details about the inventions by these lads, but what really is my concern is the merit and demerit of the internet. Basically, the merit and demerit of the internet can be categorized into two; when we talk of the merit of the internet, we mean to refer to the task of making the world a global market and village; while the invention of various social networking platforms and sites created on the internet to distract and switch the focus of people in this modern era can somewhat form the demerit of the internet. The thing about the tool and power embedded in the internet and some of this social media is that why some capitalist and individuals seat and fold their harms making whooping cash out of creating a platform on the internet, some individuals scramble and fight to get themselves registered and involved regularly on such platform without making a dim from it.
To a certain extent, most of those networks play on the "Fear Of Missing Out" in order to keep you connected as they derive most of their revenue stream by having you spending time on them. Don't get caught up and remind yourself this fact from time to time. Like Casinos, they only fear that you do not cross their doors and do everything they can to keep you hooked up: as soon as you are in, they make money (understand the mobile apps now?).
With all sincerity, the social networking platforms we have today are not all distracting, it has its own good and importance, if not, nobody would be visiting them. One might begin to wonder, what social networking is. There are two faces to defining social network; when we talk of social network in computer, we mean to refer to an online community where people come together to exchange information and ideas. While on the other hand, we talk of social network to mean physically socializing to expand ones business or academic network.
The problem with the internet is that, it accommodates anything and really does not sensor most of the things it is being used for. For instance, anybody can run a porn site or a gun site without being disconnected from the internet.
It is really odd to find out that most individuals are finding it real hard to embrace these new innovation that have come with the internet, as some are scared of a new world order, security issues, all this I can sum up to be technophobia.
As for everything good in life, social media have to be consumed with moderation and can quickly become extremely addictive.
